February 2008
After competing in two of the PKRA events last summer ’07 and then winning the BKSA Ladies Pro’s, I had no difficulty in knowing what my next plans were. I hugely enjoyed the BKSA series across the UK. There are a great bunch of people doing the tour, some fantastic spots to visit and the heats were great fun. I had done the Tarifa and Fuerteventura PKRA stops to check out the scene, took a look at the level of the girls and decided whether it would be something I would enjoy doing in the future. I found the level of the handful of girls at the top of the PKRA leader board impressive. The events were extremely motivating and I knew that my next mission was to compete on all of the 2008 PKRA stops.
My winter plans were then made to train ready for a full onslaught on the PKRA. I decided to spend time in Cumbuco, Brazil in November with some of the Turbulence and Flexifoil team. It was an excellent spot to train with both lagoon and waves so I learnt a lot. I went on to Margarita, an island off Venezuela, for the end of January and February. I had heard amazing things of Coche Island and that El Yaque on Margarita was quite gusty and choppy. I went with the intention of spending some time at both spots to make the most of the super flat water at Coche, to learn new tricks and make sure I could land everything in the chop of El Yaque. I spent some time on Coche but actually found El Yaque a great spot to work on my consistency as you can always find space and the locals were great, pushing me to try things. It also gave me plenty of super windy days to make full use of the 5m Atom 08, IT ROCKS!!!
So I am totally psyched for the season ahead and am now heading off for the first PKRA event in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I’m super excited about the coming year and will keep you all updated on how it goes on www.turbulenceangels.com and soon my own website.
Happy kiting Johara xx
